Demister And Volatile Control

A distiller that ignores droplets and volatile carryover will eventually lie to the operator. This module protects the compressor and improves output quality.

Public And Shared-Thread Basis

The shared thread repeatedly treated mist elimination, knock-out protection, volatile management, and vent/backpressure control as required parts of a believable Slingshot-style system.1

OpenSling Reference Choice

The current open design uses:

  • a removable demister cartridge or pad upstream of compression
  • a knock-out volume with drain access
  • a controlled vent or backpressure element
  • a clear path for adding carbon vent treatment in non-potable test setups

Why This Matters

  • droplets destroy compressors
  • entrained concentrate contaminates product claims
  • non-condensables degrade heat transfer
  • volatile organics can bypass naive “boil it and forget it” assumptions

What To Measure

  • liquid accumulation in the knock-out section
  • compressor inlet humidity or condensate evidence
  • vent flow behavior
  • odor or carryover events in product water

Open Safety Note

Distillation does not magically remove every volatile contaminant. If source chemistry is uncertain, do not make potable claims without source-specific testing and appropriate post-treatment.
